Welcome to A Fisherman's Freedom Philosophy Website
Thank you for visiting this website that is devoted to promoting freedom. Please take a little time to check it out. The book I have been working on for several years was first posted here on Independence Day of 2023 so everyone could read it for free. I picked July Fourth because it is the day we celebrate being blessed with the kind of freedom most people throughout history have only dreamed of enjoying. That freedom was free for me thanks to the sacrifices so many have made in an endless struggle to preserve, promote, and pass it on. This is my contribution to helping secure our blessings of liberty for us and future generations. An updated version of A Fisherman’s Freedom Philosophy was posted on 9/12/2024 and is still free. That date back in 2001 was the last time most Americans stood united regardless of race, religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or anything else. We have grown increasingly more divided since then to the point of tearing apart friends and families, mostly over politics. My goal is to share ideas that unite independent thinkers in support of our individual liberties that collectively make us free people.
I believe most of us have much more in common than may appear in the news and politics. A desire to be free is one thing that unites all of us. We all have different freedoms we cherish more than others. Being tolerant and respectful of each other’s freedoms is the key to keeping them. We must let each other be who we want to be so long as we do no harm to others. Isn’t freedom basically the ability to spend our time pursuing happiness as we wish?
The book is a work in progress that will be updated annually. Honest conversations with people from all walks of life have influenced my freedom philosophy. You can contribute to it now by joining me in respectful discussions on the Discussion Blog page. Considering different points of view helps us find solutions most reasonable people can support. Some of this freedom philosophy focuses on enriching and empowering ourselves through wise management of our Public Resources. The potential is there for us to capitalize on new Public Resource Development Opportunities in ways that secure the essentials of civilization with profits paid directly to us. There are ways can use the free market to advance common-good goals while securing basic financial freedom for everyone if enough of us try. You can help by simply thinking about these ideas and sharing them with others.
You might be wondering what I hope to gain from all of this. First and foremost is freedom. My monetary incentive for devoting so much time to this comes from the Natural Art Freedom Calendar. Selling calendars with pictures taken while working around the water as one of the last independent commercial fishermen allowed me to be a self-funded fisheries advocate for over a decade. This experience has provided unique insight as to how and why certain things are happening along with opportunities to offer positive solutions that benefit everyone and the environment. Many of these solutions can be applied in other areas to promote peace, prosperity, and liberty for all. If you think any of this is worth considering, please keep reading and check out the calendar below. Thank you for your time and support.

Photo Info
January’s photo is one of the first I took with a new camera phone. The brilliant sky reflected in calm waters made for a stunning sunrise picture worthy of being on the cover.
February’s photo is of a lovely snowlady on Atlantic Beach after our first heavy snow in years. She looks happy without a worry in the world, existing for a brief moment of joy.
March’s photo was taken off the beaten path on Bodie Island before sunrise. We never know what wonderful opportunities await when we explore new points of view in nature and life.
April’s photo is of a beautiful memorial in the Fort Macon dunes that seems fitting for Easter.
May’s photo is of a young racoon that visited the dock and posed for a few pictures before moving on. Live and let live is the caption because it looks concerned about my intentions.
June’s photo is of a rare black and white fogbow over Kure Beach fishing pier. The fogbow first appeared on a ferry ride from Southport to Fort Fisher. This is the only one I have seen.
July’s photo of the Little Red Lighthouse in Saugatuck Michigan was taken while visiting family. The crisp flag completed a classic scene to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
August’s photo was taken offshore of Cape Lookout as the setting sun struck low clouds at various angles to show an array of natural light beauty around a big ship made to look small.
September’s photo was taken from Cape Hatteras Motel and shows the old timey charm of yesteryear with a porch full of wooden rocking chairs and clothes lines right on the beach.
October’s photo is of a Spiny Dog Shark nature tricked with a big wave washing it ashore. I treated the stranded shark to freedom by releasing it alive after snapping a quick picture.
November’s photo is of a Green Heron that lives under the dock looking skyward late one afternoon as if giving thanks for another good day of living wild and free in coastal Carolina.
December’s photo is of an old horsedrawn carriage on the historic Wilmington waterfront that was tastefully decorated to celebrate some different seasonal holidays.
All the photos in this year’s calendar were taken with a new camera phone to highlight advances in technology that will quickly transform our lives for better or worse depending on what we do now. Taking pictures has helped me understand the importance of timing and looking for the best opportunities available. We have a wonderful opportunity to usher in a new Renaissance Period of enlightenment and creativity with the financial freedom and time to pursue our version of happiness if we start thinking about how to make the best of technological, societal, and economic changes that are coming whether we like it or not.
